Purpose: To evaluate outcome of treatment in patients of traumatic glaucoma.
Methods: An observational study was done in 35 traumatic glaucoma patients who achieved target intraocular pressure (IOP) following treatment
Results: A reduction in IOP by 30.76% (p<0.001) improved visual acuity (VA) by 27.27% (p<0.001) and widening of anterior chamber angle (ACA) by 5.94% (p=0.15). There was improvement in Cup to disc (C:D) ratio by 2.33% (p=0.3), disc damage likelihood score (DDLS) by 9.26% (p=0.16), visual field (VF) mean deviation (MD) by 15.07% (p=0.15), pattern standard deviation (PSD) by 7.03% (p=0.23) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) ganglion cell count (GCC) by 7.39% (p=0.003) but deterioration in OCT retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) by 11.77% (p=0.03). Conclusions: The treatment of traumatic glaucoma improved VA, IOP, ACA, C:D ratio, DDLS, VF MD, VF PSD and OCT GCC but not OCT RNFL raising possibility that GCC damage is more reversible than RNFL damage.
