PURPOSE: To assess awareness about common aspects of Diabetes Mellitus amongst hospital paramedical personnel .To asses their knowledge about visual loss in Diabetic Retinopathy and different treatment modalities.
MATERIAL AND METHODS:Its a hospital based prospective study of 200 paramedical personnel who were given questionnaire on DM and DR and data analysed over 06months from July16 to Jan17
RESULTS: Among 200 sample 45%were aware that india is one of the leading country having high incidence of diabetic population.
• In present study, 85% were aware of diabetic retinopathy and it causes visual loss and is a treatable.
• 20% were aware of laser as a treatment modality and only 60% knew about the surgical treatment.
CONCLUSION: Our data suggest that there Is urgent need of health education training to the paramedical personnel to know all the symptoms, risk factors,treatment modalities of DR.
