Purpose-Optic nerve head size variability in people of different ethnicity is a known proposition and has implications in optic nerve assessment for glaucoma. This study aimed to assess the inter region variability of optic disc topography in patients presenting at a tertiary eye care centre. Methods-Retrospective review of 297 eyes of 149 consecutive patients who underwent imaging of the optic nerve head using Triton OCT were divided in two groups based on their origin into south Indian and east Indians. Results- The various OCT parameters were studied, and unpaired t test was done to estimate the differences in these populations. Disc area (2.26, 2,02 mm2) and cup volume (0.44, 0.31 mm3) were found to be significantly larger in east Indian than in south Indians (P=0.0003 and 0.0004). Rests were insignificant. Conclusion-There is significant variation in eastern Indian population in disc size and cup volume, hence it is important to create region-wise national normative data base.
