A majority of ocular injuries are preventable by using safety eye-wear or goggles, which are freely available and inexpensive. A 27 year old surgeon presented with injury to the left eye while removing a metal clamp from the mouth of a patient, after oral surgery . She reached our OPD within 5 minutes, with blurred vision, pain, watering, photophobia and redness. On examination, the vision in her left eye was 6/9(p), there was a linear opacity at the 7 o’clock extending upwards radially for 3 mm. Fluorescein staining was positive, outlining a tract in the linear opacity, extending deep within the stroma. (slit-lamp photographs will be shown). The R/E was normal. The left eye was patched after antibiotic drop installation. The next day, she had minimal corneal haze, which disappeared after 48 hours, with 6/6 vision and complete healing of the cornea. This injury could have been dangerous if treatment was delayed, and would not have occurred if protective glasses had been used.
