BACKGROUND – OSSN predominantly occurs in elderly. However patients with immune deficiency such as AIDS can develop it at a young age. Here we present a case of OSSN in a young patient with AIDS.
CASE REPORT – 39 years old male, a known case of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma with AIDS (detected in Aug 2015) and on ART presented with c/o painless, progressive swelling in RE for past 2 years. O/E – DVA 6/6 unaided BE.
RE –12 x 08 mm elevated, pigmented mass in nasal conjunctiva with well defined margins. The mass is not adhered to underlying sclera with sentinel blood vessels seen nasally. Patient underwent Excision biopsy of mass with 3 mm margins + Cryotherapy to margins + AMG. HPE (17/01/17) – Squamous cell carcinoma in situ with positive margins, no foci of invasion on deeper section. Patient given topical Mitomycin C for 3 cycles with complete regression of lesion.
CONCLUSION – OSSN can occur at a young age in patients with AIDS and a high index of suspicion is required.
