Purpose: To describe the management of a case of Cavernous Hemangioma- removed by lateral orbitotomy.
Materials and Methods: A young female of 25 years presented with axial proptosis of right eye of one year duration. Multidiscplinary approach was used to remove the tumor by lateral orbitotomy.
Results: There was axial proptosis of about 4 mm. CT scan and MRI showed a well defined mass in the intraconal space. Extra ocular movements were normal. Patient underwent lateral orbitotomy in association with maxillofacial surgeon. Tumor was excised completely. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of cavernous hemangioma. Postoperatively there was no proptosis. Extra ocular movements were normal. There was mild ptosis and pupillary dilation post surgery which improved over 3 months.
Conclusion: Cavernous hemangiomas are the most common orbital tumors in adults and can be safely removed through lateral orbitotomy.
