Purpose: To evaluate the change in corneal asphericity(Q) and spherical aberrations after refractive surgery
Methods: A retrospective study of 144 eyes of 72 Myopic patients who underwent LASIK were evaluated. The Q values at 6 mm were obtained using Scheimpflug imaging and corneal spherical aberration(SA) values at 6 mm were obtained using Ray tracing preoperatively and 1 month postoperatively.
Results: The mean SA was +0.27 ±0.10 μm preoperatively and +0.53 ±0.25 μm postoperatively with a statistically significant difference (p <0.001), which correlated to the amount of preoperative refractive error. The median Q value was -0.25(IQR: -0.31,-0.81)preoperatively and +0.58(IQR:+0.23,+0.99)postoperatively. One unit increase in the Q value difference is associated with 0.34 unit of increase in the SA difference( 95% confidence interval of 0.28 to 0.39). Conclusion: A trend for the Q values and SA to become more positive and with a linear association was noted after myopic ablation.
