Background: Since LASIK is done to obtain clear distance vision, the pre-op exam may not address binocular skills. Despite good post op results patients complain of blurry vision indicating binocular visual defects. Thus the study was conducted.
Method: We studied 25 anisometropic patients undergoing LASIK for their binocular functions, using Synoptophore, pre and post-surgery. Post-LASIK follow up was done on day 1, 15,30 &90
Result: 13 of 25 post-LASIK patients complained of post op visual discomfort despite good corneal healing & negligible refractive error.Range of convergence decreased in 13, improved in 5 & did not change in 7 subjects. Orthoptic exercises improved all 13 patients with less convergence.11 of 25 patients had grade 2 BSV which remain unchanged. Binocularity remained unchanged in 14.
Conclusion: Post-LASIK, blurry vision indicates binocular visual problems. Incorporating orthoptic exercises post-op improves the convergence. LASIK does not change the grade of BSV.
