Aim: To assess the safety and efficacy of posterior chamber Phakic IOL for correction of high myopia.
Study Design: Prospective interventional study.
Participants: 24 eyes of 18 patients with high myopia (-7.00D to -25.00D) operated by the same surgeon using same type of lens were included in this study.
Outcomes measured: Uncorrected Visual Acuity (UCVA), cycloplegic refraction, Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), Endothelial count, CCT, IOP, AS-OCT to see the vault.
Results: Patients were followed up post-operatively on Day 1, Day 3, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months. Post op UCVA of 22 eyes (91.6%) and 24 eyes(100%) had equal or better than pre-op BCVA by 1 week and 1 month respectively. There were no significant changes in CCT and endothelial count post-operatively. Two eyes (8.3%) developed elevated IOP on Day 1 which got normalized by 1 month.
Conclusion: Posterior chamber phakic IOL implantation for high myopes is a safe procedure with good refractive outcome.
