Aim: To find etiology & prevalence of amblyopia in adult patients attending Ophthalmology outdoor of a tertiary care hospital of coastal Odisha. Materials & Methods: prospective observational study of 1 year (Feb 2016 to Jan 2017). 6900 patients >25 years age with diminuation of vision, BCVA calculated. Patients with BCVA ≤ 20/40 in 1 eye & patients with BCVA 2 line difference between eyes identified. Detail ocular examination done including anterior segment evaluation, cover testing, funduscopy. Amblyopia diagnosed in eyes with reduced BCVA in absence of other cause. Results: Amblyopia diagnosed in 190 patients. Prevalence of amblyopia in >25 year age group was 2.75%. Etiologies of amblyopia include anisometropia (54.7%), strabismus (22.1%), isoametropia (18.4%) and visual deprivation (4.8%). Out of 190 patients male were 125 (65.8%) & female 34.2%. Mean age group 48.5 ± 12.5 years. Conclusion: This study has provided prevalence and etiology of amblyopia in adult patients.
