We report the refractive and alignment outcomes in a cohort of children diagnosed with accommodative esotropia. Our study examines the course and progress of whole spectrum of accommodative esotropia , including patients with high AC/A ratio . We examined the likelihood of discontinuation of glasses and found that about 3% of our study population were able to discontinue glasses after a mean follow-up of 7.5 years . Our value lies at the lower end of the range (2.5%-24.4%) of the number of patients who were able to discontinue their glasses , as reported by various studies . The mean age at final follow-up in our population is 11.65 years.
Twenty of the 201 children with FAET eventually decompensated to eso/exotropia at the final follow-up .
Children with fully accommodative esotropia are significantly more likely to achieve high-grade stereoacuity than are those with partially accommodative esotropia. We also found that bi-focals do not improve stereopsis values in the long term .
