AIM:To identify the pattern of ocular morbidity due to firecrackers during Deepawali.METHODS:All patients with ocular firecracker injuries attending our OPD during ‘Deepavali'(29october to 20 November 2016)were included.Detailed ocular examination including slit-lamp evaluation,fundus examination along with B scan,OCT,CT scan/X-ray orbit were done.RESULT:20 patients were included of which 16(80%)were males.Mean age was 9years.More than half of cases were by-standers.2(10%)patients had open-globe injury whereas 18(90%)patients had closed-globe injury.6(30%)patients underwent surgical intervention.5(25%)patients had final vision < 6/60(range = 6/60 to PL absent)with 2 patients having no perception of light in the affected eye.CONCLUSION:Unregulated use of firecrackers can lead to significant ocular morbidity.Public awareness,formulation of appropriate legislative laws regarding use of fireworks and early and proper treatment can decrease the load of needless blindness on society.
