AIM
Pre eclampsia is characterized by high blood pressure, proteinuria along with ocular signs. This study was designed to evaluate subfoveal Choroidal thickness (SFCT) in pre-aclampsia and compare with that of pregnant as well as healthy women.
METHOD
A prospective study was done in a RIO in Eastern Odisha from Jan 2016 – Dec 2016. 54 healthy pregnant women and 48 pts with pre-eclampsia were recruited from OBG Dept. 54 healthy females were also included. All were in reproductive age grp. BP measurement and ophthalmological evaluation done.SFCT was measured using enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography.
RESULTS
The mean SFCT of normal subjects, healthy pregnant women and patients with pre-eclampsia were 280.3±24.53, 290.56±27.10 and 375.65± 30.42 μm respectively.Mean gestational age was 32.4±4.8wk.SFCT decreased significantly 1 wk after delivery in patients with pre-eclampsia.
CONCLUSION
Pre-eclampsia caused significant increase in SFCT as compared to normal pregnancy.
