Unlike neovascular age related macular degenaration, Iatrogenic choroidal neovascular membrane (CNVM) is a rare complication following intra-ocular surgical procedures and laser photocoagulation due to disruption of Bruch’s membrane and / or retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). We report herein a case of 69 year old male who developed secondary CNVM following vitrectomy for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, at the site of intraoperative iatrogenic retinal trauma. Treatment with intravitreal bevacizumab led to a successful regression of neovascular membrane and a good visual outcome. The present report also briefly illustrates the intraocular pharmacokinetics of bevacizumab in a vitrectomised eye filled with silicone oil. Avoiding direct mechanical trauma to the retinal pigment epithelium and choroid during surgery could decrease the chance of inducing iatrogenic CNVM.
