Purpose: Comparison of patient comfort, healing and cosmetic correction between Conjunctival autograft surgery and mini- SLET for pterygium removal.
Material Method: 30 patients of various grades of pterygium were included and planned for surgery. Randomly divided into Group A (Pterygium excision with CAG) and Group B (Pterygium excision and mini SLET). Regular follow up to 6 months.
Result: Group A: Good cosmetic correction, appropriate healing in 13 cases, no recurrence.7 cases had foreign body sensation. 2 cases with wider pterygium larger graft was harvested leading to delayed healing.
Group B: Good cosmetic correction achieved. 4 cases with wider pterygium, no delay in healing. Inflammation less marked and were more comfortable as compared to group A.
Conclusion: CAG and mini- SLET were equally effective and yielded good results. Cases with larger and wider pterygium mini SLET was more tissue saving with exceptionally good cosmetic correction.
