Purpose- to study to the role of SD-OCT based objective assessment of vitreous inflammation using VIT/RPE signal intensity.
Method- 14 cases with PDR and uveitis (22 eyes) baseline visual acuity, clinical diagnosis, the severity of vitreous haze was classified. Each eye underwent SD-OCT imaging which analysed using a custom grading software, OCTOR, which provided an “absolute” measurement of vitreous signal intensity, this was compared with RPE intensity, resulting an optical density ratio with arbitrary units (VIT/RPE relative intensity). Another cohort set up with healthy eyes(controls).
Result- VIT/RPE intensity is relatively higher in active uveitis and PDR cases (0.147) comparing healthy controls (0.767, p=0.0001). setting up significant positive correlation with clinically detected AC reaction and vitreous haze score.
Conclusion- VIT/RPE intensity evaluation is an objective, non-invasive, tool which helps assessing the severity of ongoing disease and monitor the treatment.
