Compliance to medications is the question of the hour, be it post-cataract surgery or glaucoma. Avoidable complications due to decreased compliance to medication can be tackled if we improve the ease and independence of applying drops.
The physical barriers to successful eye drop instillation are achieving accurate aim , stable hands , extending the neck sufficiently, dispensing only a single drop-dexterity issues, avoiding tip contamination, and providing adequate grip and force to squeeze the bottle. When the patient shakes his hand, the axis of fall of eye drop gets deviated and fails to fall within the boundary of palpebral fissure.
After a few trails, we have developed an eye drop administration device (EDAD) which can be used as an attachment to the existing bottles to apply drops independently and safely without contaminating the tip of the bottle. We have tried the 3D model in Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and mould in polypropylene material.
