Purpose: To report the early signs of posterior capsular rent. Methods: 7 Early signs include Sudden brightening of the fundal glow peripherally, Momentary dilatation of the pupil, Loss of followability of nuclear fragments, Tilting of one pole of the nucleus, Noticing Posterior capsule wrinkle/fold, Visible torn margin of Posterior capsule, Visualization of vitreous /disturbed anterior hyaloid. Conclusion- Posterior capsular tears may occur at any stage of the surgery including hydrodissection, phacoemulsification, irrigation and aspiration of cortical material and intraocular lens implantation. Identifying posterior capsular rent early can prevent further complications and better management of cataract surgeries. If capsular rent is diagnosed early and proper management is carried out, the results of the surgery can potentially be the same as if the complication had never occurred.
