Purpose: To highlight the diagnostic and management issues in Cornea Plana. To discuss the clinical features which help in differentiating it from sclerocornea.
Methods: The video will describe the clinical features in early childhood, the natural progression of the clinical entity and its management.
Results: The clinical features of cornea plana are small corneas, dense broad limbal palisades, central corneal opacity and thin cornea. Periodic refractive correction help in visual rehabilitation of these patients, without a need for keratoplasty for the central corneal opacity.
Conclusion: Cornea Plana can be managed effectively with a regular follow up, refractive correction, and intraocular pressure assessment. It is important to differentiate cornea plana from sclerocornea as keratoplasty is generally not warranted in cornea plana. Cataract surgery can be safely performed in these eyes with fairly good outcomes.
