This video aims at throwing light upon the correct technique of a very simple yet crucial step in cataract surgery – the Capsulorrhexis.
Capsulorrhexis is made by shearing or stretching forces applied on the flap raised by a linear cut. Maximum size control is obtained by frequent re-grasping of the flap. Throughout this procedure Ophthalmic viscosurgical device is used to keep the anterior surface of the lens flat and prevent peripheral escaping of the rhexis. A flawless curvilinear capsulorrhexis is paramount in ensuring an uncomplicated cataract surgery. The following clips highlight the right approach to a good rhexis in different case scenarios, example, taming the running rhexis in mature and intumescent cataract.
A good capsulorrhexis favours a good outcome in a cataract surgery and saves the day.
Understanding the physics and the basics of capsulorrhexis is as important as doing one. The art of rhexis makes all the difference in a safe and efficient cataract surgery.
