Vitreo-retinal surgery involves pars plana vitrectomy, internal drainage of sub retinal fluid (SRF), endolaser with internal tamponade. Certain unprecedented occurrences during vitreo-retinal surgeries such as subretinal migration of air, perfluoro carbon liquid (PFCL) or silicone oil may require large retinectomy there by increasing the surgical time and post operative complications.
This video demonstrates incorporating the technique of trans scleral drainage in these situations, which might mitigate or completely eliminate large retinectomies. . This video includes
1. Trans scleral drainage of SRF with placement of an encircling band in a pediatric bullous retinal detachment with strongly adherent vitreous.
2. Trans scleral drainage of sub retinal air.
3. Trans scleral drainage of PFCL in a case with combined retinal detachment with bullous retina due to sub retinal PFCL.
4. Trans scleral drainage of sub retinal oil.
