Several years of cooperative interaction between canids and hominids did not anticipate some of the worst injuries of dog bites. Dog bites often involves the mid face region in young children. Injuries include simple lid and canalicular lacerations to complex Naso-Orbito-Ethmoid ( NOE) fractures causing severe structural and functional damage. Even vision and the eye can be lost causing severe psychological trauma to the patient. Risk of Rabies also runs high threatening the survival of the victim. This video is a noble attempt to highlight the various tips and tricks in the management of periocular dog bites. It emphasizes the role of primary wound management, lid and canalicular reconstruction, management of NOE fractures, reconstruction of the face and cosmetic rehabilitation of such patients . It also enlightens the importance of Anti Rabies Vaccination and the dose schedule so as to help the ophthalmologists and Oculoplasty surgeons adequately and effectively manage such cases.
