Background: Preoperative anxiety is predictive of a number of negative clinical postoperative outcomes including prolonged anesthesia induction, poorer postoperative recovery, and higher doses of postoperative analgesia. It has been reported that patients with preoperative anxiety are at three times the risk for exhibiting postoperative anxiety and moderate-to-intense pain. Also preoperative anxiety has also been shown to lead to longer postoperative recovery with more complications and prolonged wound healing these negative changes can cause prolonged stays in recovery areas, delays entering the operating room, and increases in health care costs. AV interventions highlighting the procedures involved in treatment appear to be a promising tool for reducing preoperative anxiety and ameliorating postoperative anxiety.
Method: We are presenting a video showing the effect of preoperative AudioVisual councelling.
Conclusion: AV counselling can be effective in reducing preoperative anxiety.
