Uncorrected refractive error(RE) is a common cause of visual impairment worldwide. School Eye Screening Program (SESP) was incorporated in the National Programme for Control of Blindness in 1994 with the aim of screening middle and secondary school students. Early recognition of REs in children and young adults is important. With its correction, we can hope to improve their quality of sight as well as quality of life, and ultimately reduce the social and economic burden on nation’s resources caused by visual impairment. SESP aims at training schoolteachers in the remotest of areas. Through this video, we aim to create a teaching tool to help strengthen the efforts to train schoolteachers working in underserved areas where healthcare infrastructure is poorly developed. This video-guide could provide valuable information so that teachers can be self-sufficient in performing vision screening of school students and refer “suspect” students to higher centres for confirmation of REs.
